Are you new to teaching special education? Have you taught special education before, but never in the state of Iowa? Join us as we dig into critical topics and how-tos that special education teachers in Iowa need to know!
This training for new special education teachers is a learning package that was developed through a partnership between the Iowa Department of Education and Area Education Agencies with the objective of providing consistent, statewide training across the state. This training is not appropriate for veteran special education teachers who are looking for a refresher; this learning was specifically designed with new teachers in mind. This course specifically addresses the following content:
- Developing Quality IEPs and Best Practices
- Understanding the Five Phases of the IEP
- IEP Essentials, Processes and Resources
The comprehensive learning package also includes learning opportunities in ACHIEVE Navigation, Early Childhood Special Education, and Post Secondary Transition—specific to educators serving children in these age groups. This content will be provided through pre-recorded webinars.
Priority for in-person attendance will be given to Heartland AEA practitioners due to room capacity. Any non-Heartland registered individuals may be asked to attend virtually, depending on number of participants.
