This is only for employees of Heartland AEA school districts. If you do not meet this criteria you will not be able to
complete this training.
Target Audience: To provide ongoing support to certificants required by CPI, this course is limited to Heartland AEA
school districts ONLY, including school staff who work with individuals 3-21 years who engage in problem behaviors
that have the potential to result in injury to self or others.
The Blended Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® Training combines online learning with traditional classroom-style
facilitation. Participants complete a series of online modules, reflect on their learning, and then attend the in-class
portion of the training to deepen their understanding of the material and learn and practice their intervention skills.
The Blended Learning experience starts with participants completing the online portion of the course, asynchronized,
which introduces them to the basic concepts of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training. Participants use a
downloadable Learner’s Guide that guides them through each module, encourages note-taking, and challenges them
to consider their own workplace realities and apply the content.
In blended learning, the focus will shift from delivery of knowledge to learning how to apply the knowledge to your
unique environment. Learners will be prepared to discuss how they can apply the models and techniques learned,
and they will practice these skills in the classroom. The classroom is also where participants learn and safely
practice any applicable physical disengagement and/or holding skills for managing risk behavior.
NOTE: The strategies taught in this training are not intended to replace Behavior Intervention Plans for individual
students, but rather to provide strategies for school staff to use to maintain safety during unusual situations or
circumstances not addressed in a BIP.
100% Full attendance required. To maintain certification, individuals are required to participate in the CPI''s
"Nonviolent Crisis Intervention" recertification training at least annually.
**Note: Important note regarding the Online Learning component: One week prior to the in-person class,
you will receive an email directly from CPI with instructions on how to complete the online portion of the
training.
