This course for PK-12 educators focuses on High-Leverage Practices (HLP) of teaching social behaviors (HLP 9). It is designed to help educators identify student social behavior deficits, provide targeted instruction, feedback, and fading and generalization strategies. Participants will leave with a social skills toolkit which includes: lesson planning template, social skills planner, implementation integrity, and observation tool. 

This course supports behavior intervention planning including teaching lagging skills, replacement behaviors, fading and generalization strategies. Instructional strategies support students who have social skill deficits including but not limited to appropriately interacting with peers and adults in the school setting, negotiating conflict, and communicating one’s needs to support both a student’s academic success as well as their sense of belonging and well-being within their educational environment.

Participants will engage in video analysis, case studies, and self-assessments to bridge the gap between theory and classroom application. 

Administered through Iowa’s Area Education Agencies, the training provides options for licensure renewal.
